Walkspan selected as a founding member of the GRID

In February 2019, Walkspan became a proud Founding Member of the GRID - a more than 80 member organization that serves as a platform for strengthening networks and bonds among entrepreneurs, city organizations and academic institutions.  The GRID was formed through partnership with the NYCEDC and CIV:LAB.

Publication of Walkspan’s patent

In June 2019, Walkspan’s patent on A Recommendation System and Method to Evaluate the Quality of Sidewalks and other Pedestrian Flow Zones as a Means to Operationalize Walkability was published by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Thirteen amazing summer interns

Whether out of sheer luck or millennials believing in our mission and vision, thirteen amazing interns worked at Walkspan the summer of 2019. The interns hailed from schools like Columbia University, New York University, Skidmore, Rutgers, SUNY and NJTech. They were divided into three groups - GIS, urban design and development groups.

GIS and Urban Design Interns

Sidewalk data for 30 cities

Thanks to our hardworking staff and enthusiastic interns, we have gathered walkability data in 30 cities in the US. It is our goal in 2020 to map the data and integrate them in our real estate API and navigation App.

Lifestyle Essentials (LE) for PropTech

A new feature was added to our real estate API we call it Lifestyle Essentials (LE). It is a location intelligent tool that displays in one click of a button all the lifestyle essentials important to one's quality of life located within a five and ten minute walk from the choice of property. The API can be seamlessly integrated to any real estate portal.

New sidewalk analytics tool

Combining our microscale method and GIS mapping technology with key decision filters, Walkspan is currently applying its new sidewalk analytics tool to help three business improvement districts in New York City enhance the walkability of their neighborhoods.

Lastly, we are proud to announce that Walkspan is a benefit corporation where at least ten percent of our net revenue goes to support non-profit environmental groups.

Thanks for all the fun and support received in 2019. This new year and new decade will be exciting times for Walkspan.

Stay tuned for more great news!
